This is definitely the time for the Doctor's Office to be in play in our classroom. Each day it is the first space filled at choice time, and we continue to have interesting conversations about ourselves and our health and what's happening around us.
This week we created pages about "How we take care of ourselves". The children dictated and illustrated their statements. A popular statement was "I take my shots". We also heard that children eat healthy food, get exercise, and play outside.
Our creative art project this week was a "Heart Map". We had a long discussion about love, what it is, and what it means to each child. We gave them a paper heart cut out (after talking about what hearts really look like!) and asked them to draw a map of their heart. What do they love? What is important to them?
The overwhelming response had to do with family. There are also some popular toys that were given a mention!
The doctor's office is busy with doctors and patients taking turns and taking care of each other. We hear about needing medicine, a shot, or a broken arm. We notice caring, nurturing helpers and cared for patients. Today a child asked to put a phone in the office, as well as maps (perhaps from our conversations about mapping our hearts?)
