We completed our weeks of Doctor's Office dramatic play with a collecting and comparing data activity and the completion of "charts" which have all of our work from the month.
The dramatic play in the Office was orchestrated by the children and was an opportunity for them to play out scenarios that had to do with a doctor's office. The play was completely child-led and we were careful to be observant rather than intrusive. We noticed the children filling out papers, taking temperatures, designating "doctor" versus "patient", and consulting maps and x-rays with each other. The patients were often fed with cups and trays from the dramatic play area. There was a chart for gathering height data, and now there are many pencilled lines as the doctors measured their patients!
Our projects and art work this week had to do with measuring ourselves, drawing our self portraits as faces and taking care to match our skin tones, and creating puppets of ourselves or our friends to celebrate ourselves. We made and ate delicious gingerbread cookies (there were enough to share with the 3's). We used loose parts to create faces that were fancy or plain. We measured everyone with a scale for weight and a line of cubes and numbers for our height.
