First Days of PreK!

Welcome to the 2021-2022 version of the PreK blog! We have hit the ground just running and running, and we are excited to share our classroom happenings.

We are only a few days in, but there are already friendships forming, questions being asked, and routines being followed. We have written the "rules" for our classroom together, and  added our handprints to say that we will try our best.

Be Kind

Hands and Feet to Yourself
Include Other People
Be Nice
Listen
Be Nice to Your Friends
Be Nice to Nature

Our first projects have included color mixing with trays and eye droppers. This project is very interesting AND exciting as the children share their recipes for different colors.  We learn about primary colors red, blue, and yellow.

We celebrated "DOT DAY" by reading the book THE DOT and creating a dot mural together with various materials.

The classroom is lively as the children explore all of the spaces.  As we get to know each other, we are asking the children to draw self portraits.

We created self-portraits with oil pastels and water colors. The 4's  sit right down and draw with confidence ! We will create a bulletin board outside the classroom with our name stories and our self portraits.

We have helped the children identify similarities and differences amongst themselves by creating a "guess who" page that includes their answers to questions such as "favorite food" and "favorite color".    We have found that a favorite food for many is mac and cheese!  (or pizza!!)

Outdoors, we run our trail boundary, climb stumps and trees, and cook in the outdoor kitchen. With the beautiful weather, we have been able to begin each day with a run and stretch on the playground.  We find that this time outside helps our energy when we are inside to be calm and focused.

We found the sunflower beds and thought we would feed the birds the seeds. It was hard work to scrape the seeds off of the flowers! Some of the seeds were planted in the flowerbed by thoughtful children.

We may have found our first project-there is so much to look at outdoors and wonder about, we probably should create a guide.
"What's Happening Here?  The PreK 4's Guide to the Outdoors."

Here's our classroom family!

Until Next Time,
Michele
