This week we tried some foods, including potato oven fries, cherry tomatoes, rainbow peppers, and finally vegetable soup. The children were sometimes wary but always curious about the vegetables, sometimes familiar, and other times just not something they wanted to try. We talked about taking "No Thank You" tries, and exclaimed about how hard the chefs worked to create the soup.
Each vegetable we tried also gave us an opportunity to hands on explore its properties. We printed with potatoes and peppers after we took a good look, and rolled grape tomatoes to let gravity do the work. Carrots gave us another opportunity to look closely and paint! We noticed that the carrot's middle looked like a tree trunk.
We worked together to write a recipe for our rainbow soup, after, of course, we talked about recipes being "a way to learn how to cook something you don't know how to cook".
We are writing a book about "what plant we would be if we could be any plant" and the answers are very creative and different.
We are outside rain or shine! We have added items to our "outdoor kitchen" and with the rainwater and all the green things to be picked there are some very creative recipes being created!
