SNOW

We experienced "snow" in many forms this week, especially through our senses.   We tried a new produce, "insta snow" which is a polymer (safe for handling) that becomes soft and powdery with the addition of water. We talked about the ARCTIC, where there is snow mostly all of the time, and we have some animals in our sensory table that belong in the Arctic.

We tried a "snowstorm" experiment with oil, watery white paint, and alka seltzer. This was an "observation" activity, and we talked about which liquid was heavier, chemical reactions, and just enjoyed the show!

We painted with shaving cream and white paint, which gave a nice textural feel to the paint and was easy to clean up! In the "snow" the children made tracks with their hands and animals, pushed and mixed, and explored the sensation of soapy warm paint.

We printed with snow flake "shapes"(potato mashers).

With crayon resist and pencil, the children created a snow scene that included what they liked to do in the winter. Some of the thoughts were SLEDDING and SNOWBALLS and SNOW CASTLES!

and of course we did get outside in the "snow".

We hope to soon have snow so we can practice what we LOVE!

Until Next Time,
Michele
