"You've Got a Friend in Me"

This month was all about friendship-what it means, what it feels like, and how to be a good friend.   As we have been working together conscientiously, we have also begun to play games together that have rules and take turns adding to beautiful artwork.   We are careful to notice what makes a group work well together.  We created work related to Alma Thomas, to celebrate her contribution to our art world.

We have a big chart of "favorites" in our classroom now, and each child has a list for themselves.  We play a guessing game, as we say "this child likes the number 100, they like to eat mac and cheese....." and the children try to guess!

We read the book "friendshapes", and created murals and pages about friends using shapes and expressions.
Again honoring Alma Thomas, the children chose a palette of colors and painted on glass, then we created a monoprint of their work. We were impressed with Alma Thomas' style and colors!

We had many opportunities to create work "together" this week, and there were even many "buddy" times when we asked the children to work with someone that they might be unfamiliar with.

we made a "buddy snack" together!

Our culminating friendship project happened on Friday, when we created a beautiful "friendship quilt" by each of us coloring a square, and gluing them onto a background for a wonderful combination of colors and ideas. The words to the song "make new friends" is on the quilt, too, as that was our theme song !

Of course, indoors or outdoors, we are friends together!
The ice was so fun, despite the lack of snow!

Until Next Time,
Michele

Then and Now!
